At present Thom van Dooren and Deborah Bird Rose are conducting a variety of research and publication projects under the broad theme of ‘death and extinction in multi-species environments’. All of this work is united by a common interest in the way in which communities of life stretch across generations, including, or at least drawing upon, those who have come before and will come afterwards. Within this context we are interested in what the deaths of organisms and species mean, what they contribute, and why they matter so much. This is a topic that we think is particularly important at the current time, as we move more and more deeply into the Earth's sixth great extinction event.
